Sharing session by Universiti Malaysia Kelantan (UMK) on cultural heritage preservation research project at Language Centre Prince of Songkla University (PSU) Pattani
A sharing session on the topic of " Rebana Kercing Preservation: A cultural heritage project" funded by the American Ambassador fund for cultural preservation ( AFCP) was held at Language Centre ( LC) PSU Pattani.
20 lecturers from UMK attended the session led by their Deputy Vice Chancellor of Academic and International, Professor Dr. Nik Maheran Nik Mohamed together with researchers from PSU Pattani.
The session was also homoured to receive the audience of Pattani Senator, Dato Anusart Suwanmongkol, Vice President for social mission of PSU Pattani Assistant Professor Dr. Arunewan Buaniaw and the Vce President of academic and international PSU Pattani Assistant Professor Dr. Montira Leelariangsak.
Among the key points presented were the process of obtaining fund for research from the American Embassy (AFCP), the importance of research collaborations between UMK and PSU on cultural heritage, and sharing of research outputs between two universities.
The highlight of the programme was the sharing of performing skills( music and dance) delivered by Ajaan Dr Kanit Sripaoraya from UMK to the students of PSU Pattani Thai traditional music and dance headed by Treerat. The students enjoyed the chance of acquiring the skills of knocking the rebana kercing or tambourine and learning the dance steps.
This programme is hoped to strengthen more ties between PSU and UMK especially in the area of research and academic exchanges.
The session ended with the sharing of the technique of playing the traditional musical instrument of rebana kercing, dance and songs to the students of PSU Pattani Thai traditional dance and music club. Among others presence were the team from PSU Rusamilae Journal.
The session adjourned at 4.30 pm with a memorable event.
